SMS Opt-In Process

How end users opt in to receive SMS uptime alerts from ServiceMonitor.

This page documents the explicit, multi-step opt-in flow that every end user must complete to receive SMS messages from ServiceMonitor. SMS notifications are never enabled by default, are never sent without verified consent, and are never used for marketing or promotional purposes.

1

User creates an account

The user signs up at app.service-monitor.co using email + password or an OAuth provider (Google, Apple). Account creation alone does not opt the user into any SMS messaging.

2

User navigates to Notification Channels

From the dashboard, the user navigates to Settings → Notification Channels → Add Channel and chooses SMS as the channel type.

3

User enters phone number and grants explicit consent

The user is presented with the SMS channel form. Before the form can be submitted, the user must enter their phone number and tick a required consent checkbox. The form will not submit if the checkbox is unchecked.

The exact consent UI shown to the user is reproduced below:

Include country code (e.g. +1 for US)

4

User verifies the phone number (double opt-in)

After the user submits the form, ServiceMonitor sends a one-time 6-digit verification code via SMS to the entered phone number. The user must enter this code in the app to activate the channel. No alert messages are sent to a phone number that has not been verified.

The verification SMS body sent to the user reads:

ServiceMonitor: Your verification code is 123456. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help. Msg & data rates may apply.
5

User attaches the channel to a tracker

Even after verification, no SMS messages are sent until the user explicitly attaches the verified SMS channel to one or more uptime trackers. From that point forward, the user receives SMS alerts only when one of the attached cloud services goes down, becomes degraded, or recovers.

Mobile Information Sharing

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
